A young man found guilty of raping a 22-year-old physically challenged woman in Sasolburg was sentenced to 15 years’ direct imprisonment following successful prosecution.
The Free State High Court at sitting in Sasolburg on 8 August sentenced Tshepo Lethebe (24) for raping the victim on 7 February 2021.
Sgt Sinah Mpakane, spokesperson for the provincial police, said the accused had forcedly dragged the victim to his place of residence, where he then raped her.
She said the accused had been nabbed shortly thereafter. He fell asleep next to the victim, who managed to get out to ask for help.
