The ID and Voter Education Campaign is ongoing in the Free State.

To ensure its success, the Free State Legislature, through its Public Participation office, has teamed up with various state departments and municipalities, as well as the Electoral Commission (IEC). The departments that are involved include those of Home Affairs and Health.

Ntombizanele Sifuba, speaker of the Free State Legislature, is leading the campaign ahead of the 2024 South African general elections.

The campaign started in July and the objective is twofold: to support the community of the Free State in ensuring they have an identity card on hand and to educate citizens about voting in the five regions of the province. People are encouraged to be active, engaged and responsible citizens.

The campaign is extensive, answering questions like:

  • Who can register as a voter?
  • Why should you register?
  • Where can you register?
  • How does registration work?
  • How do you check if you are registered?

The campaign aims to assist with online registration and also clarifies application for a new smart ID and the re-issuing process.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is also supporting the outreach campaign, explaining processes to apply for grants and making it clear who qualifies.
