A local beauty pageant organiser, Samuel “Chief” Leeuw, has received recognition for his continued role in uplifting women through his self-titled Chief Leeuw Foundation.
He was recognised at the Southern Region Women In Media Awards (SRWIMA) ceremony with the Game Changers award, an occasion honouring women who are agents of positive change in the socio-economic development of their communities.
The event ties with the celebration of Women’s Month.
Leeuw received a special SRWIMA Game Changer Man of Honor award, presented by Mannehileng Letuka, founder and president of the SRWIMA. She co-presents a women’s magazine show on Lesedi Fm.
Leeuw’s footprints have been monitored through the Miss Plus beauty pageant, exclusive for curvy women, which affords them a platform to embrace their natural beauty.
Beauty pageant followers and plus-sized models credit him for changing the landscape of pageantry and enabling them to have a sense of self-worth.
“It is a great honour to be the first man to receive this special recognition award from women, and during the month of women celebrating their positive contribution,” said Leeuw.
Through the foundation, Leeuw made it possible for a select number of women to compete internationally, in married and single categories in America.
Other contestants compete in the Mrs Plus Universe and Miss Plus Universe pageants.
