Two Free State universities will strive to represent the province with success in this year’s Varsity Football men’s tournament, featuring eight top-seeded universities in South Africa.
The University of the Free State (UFS) and the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, start their bid for the trophy with home fixtures taking place on Thursday (27/07).
The UFS side, Kovsie Football Club, will host the title holder, the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), looking to avenge their defeat in last year’s semifinal. Kick-off is at 19:15. The Kovsie side looks to thrive under coach Tebogo Motsamai’s teachings in this year’s tournament.
CUT will take on the University of the Western Cape (UWC) at 18:30.
The two Free State teams have the advantage of playing most of the games, four of seven, at home in Bloemfontein. Kovsie’s away matches are against the University of Fort Hare on 3 August, and the University of Johannesburg (UJ) on 31 August. CUT’s away fixtures are against UJ on 24 August, and the North-West University (NWU) on 17 August.
The local derby featuring CUT and UFS will be played on 14 September.
