The corruption case against three women traffic officers from the Free State has been remanded to 10 November. The trio, Mamodiehi Pakiso Nkwinika (43), Mohapa Maggie Motaung (44), and Ditshabako Sefudi (45) appeared in the Kroonstad Magistrates’ Court today – 16 October.
The three women are charge with corruption.
This followed their arrest by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation unit on 14 October.
Lt Col. Zweli Mohobeleli, provincial spokesperson of the Hawks, said the trio was granted bail of R1 000 each during their appearance today. He said the women allegedly demanded a bribe from a truck driver after discovering road traffic transgression from the vehicle.
“It is alleged that the officers stopped a truck between Hennenman and Kroonstad on 14 October for a roadside inspection. They discovered an apparent Road Traffic Act transgression but made demands for a R2 000 gratification instead of issuing a fine.
The driver informed his employer about this arrangement. The latter immediately alerted the police. An entrapment operation was conducted which led to the arrest of the three officers,” said Mohobeleli.
