One of the two football giants hailing from Soweto, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, stand to claim cup glory with both teams featuring in the semifinal match of this year’s Nedbank Cup.

The other semifinalists, Stellenbosch FC and Sekhukhune United, are hoping for their first-ever major trophy.

Pirates boast two titles won in 2010 and 2013, whilst Amakhosi’s single win was in 2012. Chiefs aim to end their eight year trophy drought. This is the only remaining trophy for the four clubs to claim after other major championships have eluded them.

After the elimination of five-time champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, the stakes are that much higher since the tournament’s winning team will also qualify to compete for the next season’s CAF Confederation Cup competition.
