The Standing Against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide Football Tournament has culminated in relief for needy learners at two primary schools: Mothusi and Bochabela in Bloemfontein.

The morale-boosting aid came in the form of a donation of 61 brand new pairs of shoes.

The Bochabela Primary School received 50 pairs, while Mothusi was given 11 pairs.

The beneficiaries’ selection was informed by the circumstances of their families, struggling to make ends meet due to unemployment.

The shoes could be donated thanks to the six men’s clubs that participated in the tournament.

The masters teams that played to score for the goodwill initiative are: Libra, Punishment, Pink House Social Club, By Hoek, Dog Pound and Levi’s.

The sporting event is a community initiative in support of the going effort to curb the scourge of violence.

The tournament held on 17 August tied in with Women’s Month events, with 9 August earmarked for nationwide celebration – recognising women for their achievements and continued contribution in the society.

Beauty Cave Salon in Rocklands, a woman-owned salon, also contributed to the shoe drive.
