The talent of junior cricket players will be showcased during the Bloemfontein Cricket Tournament at the Mangaung Outdoor Sports Centre on Saturday, 7 October, and Sunday.
The competition will have 12 clubs, ten comprising men and two consisting of women, competing for gold, silver, and bronze medal prizes, as well as floating trophies in their respective categories. The players will showcase their bowling and batting abilities in their quest for cup glory.
The tournament is organised by the Rocklands Cricket Club, under the auspices of the Mangaung Cricket Association (MCA).
While most of the participating teams are from the Free State towns Botshabelo and Kroonstad, as well as Bloemfontein, a men’s club from Lesotho has also been invited.
“Through this tournament we strive to promote the game and transform cricket by bringing on board teams from previously disadvantaged communities,” said Godfrey Khweshiwe, manager of the host club.
“This is a pre-season tournament to enable local clubs to sharpen their skills for the official start of the 2023-’24 league and tournaments.”
Khweshiwe said they hoped to create a platform to afford players with potential an opportunity to compete provincially, nationally, and even to represent the country internationally.
“We are hoping to see them improve their playing standard and rise to play in the top rank,” he said.
