The robotics skills of student Neo Ramasilo have earned her a prestigious opportunity to go abroad for advanced training and represent South Africa and the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, too.

Her new exciting educational journey begins with training in mobile robotics in China, starting on 12 April, with the aim of competing in this year’s WorldSkills Mobile Robotics competition in Lyon, France, from 10 to 15 September.

With a fervent desire to elevate South Africa on the global stage, Ramasilo dreams of bringing home a medal from the WorldSkills competition.

Ramasilo believes the international journey marks the beginning of a road to attaining greater things.

Armed with passion, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, she stands poised to leave a mark on the world of robotics as she envisions a future where robots transcend their mechanical confines.

“I am excited about the exposure to Artificial Intelligence technologies through my training, and what the world has to offer. I am also excited and honoured to represent my university and South Africa at the WorldSkills competition,” said Ramasilo.

“It would be nice to return home with an award for being in the top three. That is our goal as a team.”

For Ramasilo, the pursuit of robotics knowledge is more than just performing well in a competition.

“It represents an opportunity for personal growth and professional development,” she said.

Ramasilo envisions a future where innovation knows no bounds.

Amidst the pursuit of accolades, she remains grounded in her principles, emphasising the importance of teamwork, trust, and communication in the competitive arena.

Her practical approach to problem-solving serves as a guiding light, reminding aspiring roboticists to focus on practicality and functionality before delving into creativity and innovation.

Ramasilo’s passion for robotics started at a young age, and despite the lack of resources, her inquisitive mind saw her seizing every opportunity to explore and learn more about the field.
