A security guard who allegedly shot his wife on suspicion of having an affair in Botshabelo, remains in custody. The Botshabelo police are continuing their investigation.
The police arrested Thabo Sipko (43) shortly after the shooting incident on Saturday, 31 August. He reportedly shot his spouse, Motshewa Sipko (43), multiple times. Motshewa miraculously survived to tell about the horrific incident.
Sgt Sinah Mpakane, spokesperson for the provincial police, said Thabo is facing a charge of attempted murder and is set to reappear in the Botshabelo Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 9 September, for his bail application. He appeared briefly in court on Monday, 2 September.
“His licensed private firearm, a Norinco 9 mm pistol, with its serial number and one live round in the magazine was confiscated and booked in as evidence,” said Mpakane.
She said Motshewa survived the gruesome shooting and was treated at the Botshabelo District Hospital.
“A doctor confirmed that she sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper part of her body,” said Mpakane.
The incident reportedly happened at about 20:30 at the couple’s house in U Section, Botshabelo. Mpakane said the Boithuso police who responded to the shooting incident, found the woman lying on the floor.
“She reported that she was shot by her husband,” she said. Mpakane said the woman reported that her husband accused her of having a secret affair.
