BLOEMFONTEIN – A group of 34 graduates obtained certificates in advanced training in Coding, Programming and Artificial Intelligence (AI) – marking continued success of the programme offered by the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State.
The certificates were presented recently, 19 February at a graduation ceremony held at the university’s campus in Bloemfontein. The programme they followed is offered by the CUT’s Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology. According to the university, the graduation is a milestone, noting it increased the total number of graduates to 82 since the programme’s launch in 2022.
The Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) equips CUT students with in-demand digital competencies, giving them a distinct competitive edge. More than just preparing them to participate in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, it empowers them to actively shape and lead it.
According to the acting deputy vice-chancellor for Teaching and Learning, Prof. Wendy Setlalentoa, 24% of graduates have already secured employment or paid internships; while 26% have advanced to further studies.
“Many are now building careers as data analysts and Python programmers at leading financial institutions, demonstrating the programme’s measurable and meaningful impact,” she said.
Setlalentoa believes that, as more than just a skills development initiative, the SIC has become a powerful catalyst for students’ employability and academic progression.
