The Free State Premier Mxolisi Dukwana has encouraged the multitudes of Gr. 12 learners writing their final examinations to take and make correct decisions in achieving their ultimate goals. He was addressing the 313 matric learners of the Kagisho Secondary School in Bloemfontein during a special visit today, 30 October.
Dukwana’s visit paves the way for this examination; with members of his cabinet also visiting selected schools in the province to motivate Gr. 12 learners.
The exam began on 24 October with candidates writing the practical edition for subjects such as Computer Application Technology (CAT) and Information Technology (IT). According to the provincial department of education, about 35 653 full time and 8 351 part-time candidates will write their final examinations.
Dukwana strongly emphasised to the learners the importance of them making the correct decisions to make a positive impact.
“As you embark on the writing of your final matric examinations, it is critical to ensure to take and make the right decisions to ensure you pass. There are very few people who make the decision to positively change their environment and their circumstances. Do not be held back by things preventing you from not realising your full potential.
“Why is it that, at most, people are held back to not achieve their goals? It is because of their decision-making and choices. They want validation from their friends because they live for their friends, and believe others when they are told that they are not good enough.
“Have the willpower to push yourself beyond the limits and be the one that influences positivity instead. All of us, especially black people, fail because of not making the right decisions due to various things which happened in our lives, even though we are born of warriors and heroines,” says Dukwana.
He says the decisions the learners take now, will influence their future in the long term.
“This is the beginning of a new chapter and a new life. As you started writing your examinations, that chapter is unfolding now and that chapter demands commitment, dedication, and sacrifice to become a reality,” says Dukwana.
