The police in Edenburg, south of Bloemfontein, have launched a manhunt for three armed robbers regarding the robbery of 14 members of a society (stokvel). The three balaclava-wearing robbers made off with an undisclosed amount of cash after robbing members of the society at a house on Saturday, 8 June, at about 15:30.
Sgt Mahlomola Kareli, said the unknown robbers invaded the house while the stokvel members were busy counting money.
“The three unknown males, wearing balaclavas carrying firearms, took the contributions and robbed members of their belongings, and thereafter fled the scene” said Kareli, adding that no one was injured during the daring robbery.
Kareli has appealed to society groups to practice secure ways to avoid robbery.
“An appeal is hereby made to members of societies, similar to this one, to rather opt for the safer ways of transferring money through banking rather than physically handling it,” said Kareli.
The police are continuing with the investigations and are yet to make arrests. Kareli said the police were investigating a case of house robbery, and are appealing to the public to assist with reliable information of the whereabouts of the suspects. Members of the public can contact the investigative officer, Const. Cynthia Leeuw, on 079-540-9966 of the Edenburg police, call the police crime line at 08600-10111, or drop an anonymous tip-off on the MySapsApp.
