Poetry lovers can experience the magic of its creativity and inspiring passion during the Free State’s Veterans Poetry Night, taking place in the Pacofs studio in Bloemfontein. It will be characterised by poets who will recite poems live and also launch their poetry books from 10 to 12 October.
The Charmza Literary Club is organising this event in partnership with Pacofs, aiming to recognise and revitalise poetry in the Free State and celebrate strides made by local poets in celebration of South Africa’s rich heritage.
Charmaine Mrwebi, founder of the Charmza Literary Club, said the event would celebrate the achievements of a group of poets who published books the past two decades.
“The first poetry show was attended by a small audience. However, 20 years later Free State poetry is vibrant – with 20 poetry anthologies published and launched,” said Mrwebi.
According to Mrwebi, the festival is the pinnacle of the efforts of ten poets who began their journey in Bloemfontein in 2004.
The three-day event will also feature poetry workshops. The programme will run from 10:00 until 17:00 daily. Tickets are sold at the venue, at R80 per person.
