A rising hockey star from Bloemfontein is forging her way to the top. Aspiring to reach greater heights in her sport of choice, she has been gifted with a chance to fortify her skills and gain valuable experience in the Netherlands.

Omphile Hendricks was selected by the Into Africa Sports panel for the ECHS invitational hockey team that will tour the Netherlands from 1 to 9 October.

She has been offered this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to further develop her hockey skills based on merited performance in tournaments for U18 players.

She featured in interprovincial and national competitions, and consistently performed well.

The international exposure allows South Africa players to play against the best hockey clubs in the world and receive coaching from highly rated international hockey coaches.

The team Omphile will be travelling with will tour Amsterdam, The Haque, and Maastricht cities of great interest and influence in the sport of hockey.

Omphile was part of the Southern Free State hockey team that competed in this year’s U18 South African Schools Hockey Association (Sashoc) tournament, staged in Bloemfontein from 25 June until 12 July.

She contributed towards her team lifting the girls’ A-section trophy with a 3 – 2 win in a penalty shoot-out against the Boland team.
