A young Botshabelo man, passionate about education, is making a difference by improving several learners’ abilities through a self-funded learning programme.
Kamohelo Ramoeletsi initiated the A-step Extra Classes programme as a non-profit undertaking in 2021, with 14 Gr. 9 learners. He uses one of the classrooms of the Nthabeleng Primary School in Section A, Botshabelo.
“The main objective is to help learners improve their performance and achieve excellent marks in different subjects,” says Ramoeletsi, who also helps learners on weekends.
He says the dedication to attaining good marks by the first group of learners has attracted more.
“It is now two years since we started offering extra classes, and the programme is producing positive results. We are mentoring about 187 learners of six local schools in Botshabelo.”
According to Ramoeletsi, the pass rate that these learners achieve ranges from 50% to 70%.
He says the programme now focusses on Gr. 8 to Gr. 11 learners on weekends and public holidays.
“During final exams we assist them, and we have a block timetable of subjects that is aligned with their exams.”
Assisted by nine facilitators, Ramoeletsi helps learners with Mathematics, Natural Science, Accounting, Business Studies, Life Sciences, Economics and English.
The programme also assists Gr. 12 learners with online bursary and university applications, made easier by free WiFi facilities.
