A young beauty pageant contestant is tirelessly chasing her dream to wear the crown. Olwethu Ziqubu (18) made it into the top 40, as one of the 137 contestants who vied for the title of this year’s Miss Teen World South Africa pageant.

The list of finalists was made available on 10 June.

Ziqubu, a Bsc student in Environmental Health studying at the Bloemfontein campus of the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, represented the province.

Despite falling short of making the grade in the prestigious pageant, she still received recognition, proving she has great potential. She received an accolade for her photogenic characteristics.

“I believe in being a catalyst for positive change, and I strive to have an impact in other people’s lives,” said Ziqubu.

She already boasts numerous titles. Among these are: second princess in the Miss Crystal pageant; Miss Planet Earth Teen 2018; first princess Miss Umgungundlovu 2018; Miss Pinetown Teen 2018; and second princess in Miss Umgungundlovu 2019.

Originally from the of town of Ermelo in Mpumalanga, Ziqubu is involved in charity campaigns and with charity organisations. These include Cheshire Home, the Ekujabuleni Children’s Home in her hometown, and the Sunflower Children’s Hospice in Bloemfontein.

Ziqubu also models on a part-time basis at fashion shows.
