A specialised medical facility, Emoyamed Bloemfontein, celebrates a new beginning under new ownership. This era entails a new hospital management, as well as a name change for this state-of-the-art facility.

Previously known as Emoyamed Private Hospital, the facility has experienced this exciting new change effective on Thursday, 1 February. The hospital is licensed for three ultramodern operating theatres, 17 intensive care beds, 55 acute care beds, 19 acute rehabilitation beds and 25 sub-acute beds.

Dr Franco Erasmus, hospital manager, said the new era would see the re-opening of the Emergency Centre.

Emoyamed Bloemfontein is situated in a tranquil estate in the heart of the Free State. Erasmus believes a tranquil environment complements the recovery of patients, giving them peace of mind. Patients’ loved ones are welcome to stay over at the hotel and make use of facilities such as the day spa, whilst patients receive their required medication and attention.

“We are excited to commence with the specialist medical services that are offered at the hospital and intend to deliver an excellent service to patients in central South Africa. Emoyamed Bloemfontein is ready to tend to the medical needs of our community and will take extensive measures to ensure the safety of our patients, staff and doctors,” said Erasmus.

The hospital has a staff complement of approximately 140.

“We truly believe that the hospital will provide the Bloemfontein community with broader access to safe, private medical care.”

Specialist medical disciplines include internal medicine, intensive care, rheumatology, neurology, oncology, general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, neurosurgery, gynaecology and plastic surgery. Acute rehabilitation for various medical conditions is offered by a multidisciplinary team in a dedicated rehabilitation ward.

Dr Seboco, chief radiologist, is head of the radiology department.

“At Emoyamed Bloemfontein we pride ourselves in our well-equipped theatres,” he says.

The equipment includes, but is not limited to, a neuronavigation system that enables the neurosurgeon to perform advanced procedures.

Dr Marisan Nienkemper, specialist physician, believes the facility is ideal for meeting patients’ needs.

“It is a place where patients are not regarded as just another number, but as a person with a body and spirit. This is a place where patients can properly heal and are cared for by a team that cares passionately,” said Nienkemper.

According to William du Plessis, managing director of Emoyamed Bloemfontein, the board of directors consider it a great privilege, as well as a responsibility, to manage Emoyamed Bloemfontein functionally and effectively.

“We want to provide top-quality services to the community,” said Du Plessis.
