This year’s Aids Benefit music concert will take place at the Kroonstad Resort in Kroonstad on Saturday, 7 December.
This event aims at raising awareness and educating the public about the HIV/Aids epidemic.
Furthermore, it is aimed at dispelling myths associated with HIV/Aids and encouraging open conversations between individuals to break down barriers of stigma in order to create a more compassionate and understanding society.
The concert is a continuation of support to affected communities by providing essential services and encouraging testing, counselling, and the undergoing of treatment by those affected by HIV/AIDS.
According to the organiser, the Uhuru Foundation, this concert will raise funds to support local organisations and initiatives that provide vital care and support to individuals and families living with HIV/Aids.
The theme for this year is “Inspiring Hope: Celebrating life and resilience, and empowering individuals living with HIV/Aids”.
The event also coincides with an international campaign to curb the spread of this disease and educate the public on its treatment and prevention.
On Sunday, 1 December, South Africa joined the global community in marking the 37th annual World Aids Day. The aim is for at least 95% of people living with HIV to know their status, and to have at least 95% of HIV positive individuals be on antiretroviral (ARV) treatment.
