A group of musicians who are proud of their indigenous language will bring to the fore the beauty and power of language when performing live at a festival to be staged in Bloemfontein on Sunday (27/08). Dubbed The Voices, this music concert will be headlined by a homegrown and talented generation of musicians.
These acts have captured many hearts with love songs dominating music charts across South African airwaves. Among them are the likes of Star Chalale from Ladybrand, Azana from Durban, Kaylow, Mohlakeng Accapella, and the three-member male group, Encore.
Chalale performs in Sotho, while Encore performs in Tswana blended with English.
The female songstress Azana, performs in Zulu and English. These musicians have mastered the art to express their rich heritage and the beauty of indigenous languages through beautifully written songs.
“This event is a musical celebratory concert that calls on social coherence among local musical artists from the townships within the Free State province. These are established artists who are offering a fresh breath of air, musically,” said Ayanda Roda, spokesperson of the festival.
Other acts in the line up are Class Cake, Mdu, Lebina, Mobbs, Soulstud, Show D, King Absolute, DJ Beast, and Hlokoza Nesty.
This one-day occasion will take place at the Zone car wash and restaurant. It is a collaborative event between the National Arts Council (NAC), Presidential Employment Stimulus (PES) programme, and Danduza Production. Tickets are already available from Checkers, Shoprite, or Computicket, and are sold at R100, R130, and R150.
