Candles burn for the late Katlego Bereng, whose body was burned to help set free Thabo Bester from the infamous and privately-run Mangaung Correctional Centre outside Bloemfontein last year November.

Tens of mourners, mostly Bloemfontein Celtic supporters, are in attendance to pay their last respects for the mysteriously slain Bereng.

The memorial service is underway at the Mahube Tumelo Projects hall, where supporters in green and white regalia are singing songs to celebrate the late Bereng, who served in the executive council of the Celtic’s supporters branch in Bloemfontein.

In attendance are parents and close family, as well as friends. The funeral will be held on Saturday (06/05). His parents are still trying to come to terms with his murder, and are seeking answers regarding the matter and the smuggling of his body from the Free State government mortuary in Bloemfontein into the cell of the convicted rapist and murderer, Bester.
