The intriguing Carling Currie Cup Premier Division clash between the Toyota Cheetahs and the Hollywoodbets Sharks in the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein is one of the matches adding to the quality of the tournament.
This is according to Kerryn Greenleaf, Carling Black Label brand director, highlighting the consistency of the clubs and large crowds.
The eagerly-awaited fixture taking place tomorrow – Saturday, 17 August – has championship pedigree and the ingredients to reward passionate supporters. Kick-off is at 17:15. The eight top-seeded teams vying for the title have played six matches thus far, with the big guns showing their mettle.
“The Carling Currie Cup has certainly lived up our expectations – all-round quality performances by the teams and passionate supporters attending to steer their teams to win the championship is amazing. Fans add to the vibe of the matches as the players do with super performances on the field” said Greenleaf.
She said the quality observed both in the performance of the clubs and support by fans was a perfect fit towards the goal of raising the stature of the Currie Cup.
“The main goal is to upscale the iconic tournament and make it attractive for new generation of rugby players and fans. And the match between the Cheetahs and the Shark tomorrow provides a perfect opportunity,” said Greenleaf. The Cheetahs are the defending champions of the oldest competition in South Africa’s rugby history. The Cheetahs won their matches to stay in the race for home semifinals.
Greenleaf said some excitement for fans is the opportunity of a trophy tour during the semifinals and final, affording fans the opportunity to take photos as memorabilia.
