The national championship of the South African Schools Hockey Association (Sashoc) has returned to Bloemfontein, following last year’s success. The tournaments feature the U18, U16 and U13 age groups.

The competition will end with the U16 finals on 3 July. It commenced on Sunday, 16 June, with the U18 competition, which will end with the crowning of the champion in this age group on Friday. Next up will be the U13 teams, with matches played from Sunday until Wednesday, while the U16 matches will take place from 28 June. The host venues are: the University of the Free State (UFS), Grey College, the Eunice High School, the St Andrew’s School and the St Michael’s School.

“Last year, 1 948 players participated in the nationals, and 3 482 individuals attended the Sashoc regional tournaments. The sport is growing, and we look forward to showcasing the latest generation of players,” said Wendell Domingo, chairperson of Sashoc, who highlighted the importance of opportunities for hockey players.
