This year’s World Hypertension Day, observed today (17/05), and Salt Awareness Week, which started on Monday and continues until Sunday (21/05), is aimed at increasing the public’s awareness of the dangers associated with high blood pressure (BP).

The Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa (HSFSA) has partnered with other bodies to highlight the negative effects of raised blood pressure on overall health, under the theme “Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer.”

This initiative is also undertaken to actively discourage excessive salt intake due to poor diet decisions, as well as to advise against any other unhealthy eating and lifestyle habits that could ultimately result in hypertension.

Information on how to effectively prevent and manage hypertension is also brought to the forefront.
