The Joe Solomon Primary School in Heidedal, Bloemfontein, marks a major milestone in its existence this June. The school is celebrating its 85th anniversary since it was first founded.

A celebration of this legacy includes being the foundation for the formation of other schools, and producing intellectuals in society. The school’s jam-packed programme to celebrate this milestones will last from 21 to 24 June.

The celebratory events will take place at the school where the first generation and the current will converge for this significant chapter in the school’s history.

The main event will be in the form of a gala dinner held on 23 June. This will occur in the Sengangata Theatre at Pacofs.

The school’s management team has arranged activities that include live performances by local acts. This will be under the theme “#85YearsofGreatness”.

“This celebration aims to inspire pride amongst former, current, and future scholars as well as teachers to illustrate the value that the Joe Solomon Primary School has in the community of Heidedal. The name Joe Solomon, in its entirety and the importance of the school, serves as a monument of history to every resident in Heidedal,” said Allistair Simmons, project manager of the school.

He said the plan is to make the celebration memorable.

“This is an event not to be missed as there will be various talented, local acts performing for the audience. The school has a rich history that the community of Heidedal is very proud of,” said Simmons.

Currently, the school has 1 530 learners from diverse backgrounds.

The four-day celebration will officially start on 21 June with a children’s programme themed “Let the children Celebrate” from 10:00 until 12:00. This will continue with another event themed “Celebration with the ones who stood the test of time” the following day. The event will end on 24 June with the hosting of mass assembly at the school from 10:00 until 12:00.
