The ongoing environmental contamination problem in the Mangaung Metro Municipality has turned the periphery of the Motheo Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College campus in Bloemfontein into an eyesore, as this photograph taken on Sunday, 23 April, attests. Informal traders and established businesses, as well as residents of flats situated near this educational institute, dispose of their rubbish here. As a result, the waste piles up. Setting fire to the rubbish is seemingly the only way of dealing with piles of waste on this street corner, as a lack of waste removal by the municipality persists. Photo: Teboho Setena
