Bloemfontein Magistrates Court punishes habitual offender

The Bloemfontein Regional Court has thrown the book at an habitual offender after a conviction of house breaking and robbery.

The court sentenced Juadine Greyling (32) to an effective 20 years’ imprisonment.

He was sentenced on 9 June after being found guilty of house breaking and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Greyling’s conviction is the culmination of investigations by the Hawks’ Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in Bloemfontein. He committed the crime in November 2020.

WO Fikiswa Matoti, provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, said the had accused pleaded guilty to on 7 December 2020 to charges of house breaking and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

“The accused entered a house in Bloemfontein in the early hours on 10 November 2020, whereupon he took belongings following a scuffle with the owner. He was arrested the same day and later released on bail of R2 000,” said Matoti.

The accused was remanded in custody until sentencing.

Greyling has previous convictions for crimes he committed. He was convicted for malicious damage to property in 2010, and received a six-year sentence for culpable homicide in 2013. The sentence was suspended for five years.

In 2014, Greyling was found guilty of trespassing after entering a private property of a resident in Bloemfontein, despite knowing he had no permission to enter the property.
