This year’s OR Tambo Games of the Free State are set to take place in Welkom on Saturday, 26 October, and Sunday.

This year is the 17th edition of the multi-coded games, featuring netball, softball, athletics, volleyball, football and boxing. These games are staged annually during October, coinciding with the birth month of Tambo, to commemorate his life and legacy.
The games are aimed at promoting sport and recreation in the province, and through these games players have been selected to represent the province at national and international level.
The games begin at ward level through municipalities and continue into provincial level.
The best players are then selected to represent their districts during the finals.
The MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Ntombizanele Sifuba, will grace the opening for the games at a gala dinner at which a memorial lecture in honour of Oliver Reginald Tambo will be held on Friday.
