The two Free State men’s sides campaigning in the Varsity Football championship look to build on their promising start in the current tournament.

The University of the Free State (UFS) and the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, collected a point each in their opening fixtures played at home in Bloemfontein on Thursday (27/07).

The Kovsie side played to a standstill, and drew 0 – 0 with the defending champion, the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).

In a similar fashion, the CUT played to a 1 – 1 draw with the University of the Western Cape (UWC).

The local sides’ good start will be tested in tomorrow’s fixtures, in which the CUT will play host to the title defender, TUT, while the Kovsie players will be taking on their opponents of the University of Fort Hare.

Victory will propel UFS to the top of the table, pending results in other fixtures. Both Free State sides will be striving to stay unbeaten in this championship to improve their chances to reach the semifinal and, ultimately, final match.
