A host of athletes who excelled from 1 June 2022 to 31 May 2023 will receive recognition when the Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR), in partnership with the Free State Sport Confederation (FSSC), rewards best performers across 21 categories on Saturday.

The annual event recognises both men and women with or without a disability, as well as individuals in the media, for representing the Free State and South Africa. According to the department, this aims to keep the passion for sport alive in the hearts of millions.

Limakatso Mahasa, provincial MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, will also present special awards.

Finalists were announced on 8 September in Bloemfontein.

The blind star athlete Louzanne Coetzee has made the cut again. The Paralympian is a finalist for people’s choice sports star of the year alongside rapidly rising hockey star Taheera Augousti.

Coetzee is a member of the University of the Free State’s (UFS) KovsieSport team. She was made its parasports coordinator earlier this year.
