The fraud and corruption case against Mohammed Cajee (37) and Jeanne Kellerman (51), an employee of the government, is set for 23 January in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court.

The matter relates to auctioned state vehicles. The two men face charges of fraud, corruption, and contravention of the Public Finance Management Act.

They first appeared in court in November last year following their arrest by the Bloemfontein Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team.

Cajee was granted bail of R10 000, and Kellerman R3 000, during their first appearance in court on 14 November.

The latter holds the position of senior admin clerk at the government garage in Bloemfontein.

Christopher Singo, provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, said the alleged corruption related to the payment of 18 vehicles auctioned and misrepresentations.

“Earlier in last year, auctions were held on different occasions at the government garage in Bloemfontein, where 18 vehicles were sold to Cajee at an amount of R1 163 758. A deposit of R150 000 was paid by the suspect and he was also required to pay the full amount before the vehicles could be released by the garage,” explained Singo.

“It is alleged that Kellerman released the vehicles to his accomplice without the outstanding balance being settled in terms of departmental policies.

“It is further alleged that Kellerman made misrepresentations to the security official at the garage so that the vehicles could be released, and received R10 000 gratification from his accomplice.”

The men’s arrest is the culmination of probing by the elite crime fighting wing.
