One of the fun-filled activities at the WildsKOSfees, dung-spitting, wherein attendees compete as to who can spit the farthest.

While the braai fires on Saturday, 8 June, will help keep the cold of winter at bay, guests can get their fill of culinary delights made from game and other meats that the Free State has to offer.

The ever-popular De Oude Kraal WildsKOSfees makes its return and is ready to set the stage for all who have a penchant for pairings of good food and wine.

Here guests will have the opportunity to taste wine of 21 of the best wine estates from across the country Z from Spier to Strandveld, and Leeuwenkuil to Nabygelegen.

According to Gerhard Lombard of De Oude Kraal, what makes the wine tasting at this event so unique is that the estate owner or winemaker is also present.

If a particular wine is to a guest’s liking, they are free to purchase a bottle.

With 22 different food stalls that all offer a wide variety of wild game dishes, guests still have the option of being served lamb, pork, fish, or chicken. Whatever the choice, each dish will have guests wanting more.

Food and drink will not be the only focal point of the day, however. All may have their own fun.

Younger children can look forward to horseback and tractor wagon rides, while those slightly older can partake in shooting challenges such as clay target shooting with a .22 or hunting rifle, or the popular dung-spitting challenge. For those looking to show off their golfing prowess, there is also a golf driving range for both men and women to compete at. Prizes are on the line for competitive events.

While there, remember to pay a visit to the De Oude Padstal. At this farm stall, delicious meat products such as sosaties and sausages straight from the De Oude Kraal kitchen is made purchasable to all.

While Dodo is billed as the main musical attraction, he will be sharing the stage with other musicians, each with their own sounds to keep the crowd entertained.

Tickets to the festival are sold at R595 and are available at the Delta liquor and bottle store in Westdene, Crazy Daisy in Fleurdal Mall, and Daisy & Co at Preller Square. Alternatively, purchase tickets from deoudekraal.com/product/wildskosfees/.

Children between the ages of seven and 12 years need only pay R100 for their tickets, whereas those six years and younger may enter for free.

To gain entry to the WildsKOSfees, tickets should be bought before 8 June. Gates open at 10:00.
