BLOEMFONTEIN – A farm worker arrested for allegedly murdering his lover and burying her body in a shallow grave is expected to reappear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court for a bail application on Thursday, 19 February. Motsamai Pieter de Boer (34) appeared last Wednesday following his arrest on 9 February.

The suspect’s appearance came after the police discovered the body in a shallow grave on a farm homestead in Kloofeind, located close to Bloemdal, about 20km west of Bloemfontein along the N8. According to the police, the victim was identified as Sannah Sampson (27). De Boer has not pleaded amid possible incriminating evidence of allegedly concealing the victim’s body.

Police intensive investigation led to the discovery of the body in a shallow grave in the agricultural area.

Lt Col. Thabo Covane, spokesperson for the police in Bloemfontein, said De Boer faces charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice. He said the suspect had reported the victim as missing since 17 January. Subsequently, a missing person file was opened and registered on 30 January.

“The suspect gave police a false statement at the Parkweg Police Station, claiming that the deceased had left the farm to visit her aunt in Pieter Swarts, Bloemspruit. Meticulous crime intelligence gathering led to the discovery of the body buried in a shallow grave in the farm homestead Kloofeind area. The police are investigating a case of murder and defeating the ends of justice,” said Covane. He said the decomposed remains of the victim were exhumed thereafter.

Covane said a case docket was opened at the Parkweg Police Station.
