BLOEMFONTEIN: Runners can start lacing up to help build the momentum in this year’s Interstate Bus Lines (IBL) Spring Race, scheduled for Saturday, 23 August. The route for this event will start and finish at the Bloemfontein Achilles Running Club.
It makes provision for runners who wish to participate in one of three categories, namely the 21,1km, 10km and 5km fun race. The starting time for each of the three races is 06:30.
This is the ninth instalment of the annual event, which is staged under the auspices of Athletics Free State (AFS), Athletics South Africa (ASA) and World Athletics. This year’s event coincides with the bus company celebrating 50 years of operating since its inception.
The Interstate Bus Lines Spring Race has over the years become a staple on the sporting calendar in the Mangaung Metro. For those unsure of their state of readiness, the cut–off time for the 21,1km event is three hours, while it is two hours for the 10km race and one hour for the 5km fun run. Participants will not be allowed to finish any race after the cut-off times.
Prizes, also medals, are on offer for the top three finishers in the 21,1km and 10km race.
■ This event paves the way for one hosted by the Centre City Titaniums Athletics Club on Saturday, 6 September, which also makes provision for a 21km, 10km, and 5km race.
The other spring race held was the Running Edge’s 10km inter-club competition, which took place in the city on Saturday, 16 August.
