BLOEMFONTEIN – The annual Wesgrow Central Schools Sports Series is just around the corner, and schools cannot wait for the start of the new season. This series is much more than just a set of matches.
Sports events such as this play an important role in the holistic development of young people.
This year, the series starts on Saturday 14 March when Goudveld faces off against Jim Fouché, Witteberg against Sentraal, Trio against Diamantveld and Voortrekker against Fichardt Park.
The series offers learners the opportunity to express their talents on the sports field, forge new friendships and learn valuable life skills.
The series offers schools in the central part of South Africa the opportunity to compete against each other in hockey, netball and rugby. The main aim of the series is to promote mass participation.
The series was started in 2018. In 2020 and 2021, however, it did not take place due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The participating schools are: Bethlehem Voortrekker, Hoërskool Witteberg, Hoërskool Trio, Hoërskool Sentraal, Hoërskool Fichardt Park, Hoërskool Jim Fouché, Goudveld Hoërskool and the Hoërskool Diamantveld.
Sentraal was the overall winner, as well as the netball winner in 2025, with Bethlehem Voortrekker and Jim Fouché, respectively, earning the title in girls’ and boys’ hockey.
Diamantveld was the rugby champion.
“Good luck to every school, with the new season. I believe that every game will be marked with passion, respect and pride for his or her school. Regardless of who is going to walk away with the laurels this year, we believe there is going to be a lot of stiff competition on the field,” says Francois de Kock, director of media liaison.
“A sports series like this cannot take place without sponsors. A big thanks to Wesgrow, VKB, Skilltracer, and Kovsies for the continued support and investment in schools sport.
“We would like to thank Novus Media, who is the media sponsor, for the exposure afforded to our schools. It contributes to the growth and development of our youth and provides valuable opportunities.”
