A Centlec employee in Philippolis who was nabbed for alleged cable theft and vandalism is set to face additional internal disciplinary action.
A criminal charge followed his arrest on 27 May, when he was apprehended while allegedly trying to sell copper items at a Bloemfontein scrapyard.
Lele Mamatu, spokesperson for Centlec, said probing had revealed cables were stripped from infrastructure in Philippolis.
“The copper cables are worth R35 000,” he said, mentioning a spike in syndicates stealing cables along the N8 route, the airport bridge, near Mahungra Car wash, the M10 route and in parts of Botshabelo.
