A Bloemfontein-based freestyle dancer has advanced as a finalist in this year’s Red Bull Dance Your Style competition.
Luyanda “Louie-V” Mkhonjwa will showcase his moves against 15 other hopeful contenders, who can compete in any street style discipline, each vying for the South African title. The winner will compete for the global crown in Germany later this year.
The final stage of the national leg is scheduled for 2 September, in Durban.
Mkhonjwa wowed the crowd at the Free State final on 22 July in Bloemfontein.
His dancing was unmatched and audience members declared him the winner.
“I was not expecting to win. I entered last year and did not make the cut, but I made sure I came prepared this year,” said Mkhonjwa.
“I am hoping to do the same at the national final in Durban.
“I will make sure that I am doing all the dance moves that are relevant and entertaining.”
Virgill Lucas from Bloemfontein won last year’s provincial title and was the national runner-up.
The competition places a strong emphasis on the connection between the dancers and the audience, since they decide on the winner.
