The Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, strongly warns prospective students and the public that an advertisement for a short course in cosmetology being offered by the institution is malicious.
The advertisement states that the CUT is offering the course at R6 000 over a period of nine to ten weeks, covering both practical skills and theoretical content.
Stating the details of a contact person, as well as banking details, the advertisement indicates only cash payments are accepted – with 31 August set as the commencement date. Furthermore, it requests an additional R1 000 for equipment required.
The CUT has strongly warned the public to not fall prey to the advertisement described as bogus. It is strongly believed unscrupulous individuals are trying to scam those interested in pursuing a career as a beauty specialist.
“The CUT would never promote any course that requires cash payments. We urge the community to be cautious when considering such courses. Falling for these scams can lead to significant financial loss and disappointment. Pay attention to the language used in posters and any incorrect or misleading addresses. At the CUT, we offer a legitimate NQF level 6 Somatology diploma,” said Seithati Semenokane, spokesperson for the CUT.
Study for this diploma in Somatology is completed over three years.
Prospective students are advised and encouraged to visit the CUT’s official website, cut.ac.za, to get more information. More specifically, refer to http://cut.ac.za/programmes/somatology. To apply for legitimate courses, find all the necessary details and guidance at http://cut.ac.za/application-process.
Applications for 2025 will close on 30 September, having officially opened on 13 May.
