BLOEMFONTEIN – The Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) has a new Chief Information Officer to execute and oversee the institution’s information, cyber, and technology security. The varsity announced the appointment of Galeboe Mogotsi to important position effective on Monday 5 January.

The university stated that Mogotsi’s appointment was in line with its implementation of the 2026–2030 Strategic Plan within the Resources and Operations Division.

The varsity is undertaking a focused turnaround strategy to enhance operational excellence and institutional efficiency.

Mogotsi’s experience in digital transformation spanned nearly two decades. During this time, he consistently delivered technology strategies that enhance service delivery, strengthen governance, and support the creation of resilient, modern digital environments. Mogotsi has served in several senior roles, including Chief Information Security Officer, General Manager for ICT Strategy and Governance, Senior Manager for Cybersecurity Innovation and Deputy Director for ICT.

Across these positions, he has earned recognition for aligning ICT capabilities with institutional priorities, improving operational efficiency, and advancing cybersecurity maturity.

Mogotsi holds an MBA, a Postgraduate Diploma in IT Management and a B-Tech in IT Management. He is also a Chartered CIO (C-CIO SA) and a Certified IT Business Executive. His work is guided by a strong commitment to innovation, resilience, and strategic excellence, positioning technology as a key driver of institutional transformation and societal impact.

The university believes his appointment was significant for the improvement and strategic alignment as well as strengthening the role as a trusted partner in advancing the university’s mission and long-term sustainability.
