The Rotary Club of Bloemfontein Thabure has donated garden tools and trees to five schools in Bloemfontein as part of its community project.
The donation of trees is in line with the club’s greening initiative to encourage schools to engage their learners in environmental care and foster a love and appreciation for nature, while the provision of the gardening tools was aimed at cultivating a culture of establishing a small vegetable garden, which supports food security.
The schools that received trees are the Batho Primary School, Lereko Secondary, Tsoseletso Secondary and Moemedi Secondary. The Morafe Primary School received a full set of garden tools.
Cecilia Lubita of Bloemfontein Thabure said that Morafe had been presented the tools given the plight of learners needing food, while the trees were donated to the other four schools on account of a significant need identified to promote environmental awareness.
She said the club embarked on educational projects, targeting schools because they were ideal to promote awareness projects.
The donations were made on separate occasions from 1 to 3 November.
