The Free State Crinums will look to avenge last year’s defeat against the Gauteng Jaguars in the upcoming Telkom Netball League (TNL) final taking place on Wednesday, 19 June.
In last year’s final the Free State team lost 51 – 59 to the Jaguars, who were crowned the TNL champions.
The Crinums reached this year’s final after beating another Gauteng-based side, the Golden Fireballs, 43 – 39 in the second semifinal, while the defending champions narrowly beat the Western Cape Stings with a score of 48 – 46 in the other semifinal.
The Crinums, three-time champions, last won the competition in 2016 under the guidance of Burta de Kock. The Bloemfontein-based side will look to end their misfortune by recording their fourth title in the final against the Jaguars this time.
Martha Mosoahle, the Crinums’ coach, will look for inspiration from seasoned star player Karla Pretorius to realise their dream of winning.
Pretorius, who has expressed her desire to lift the prestigious trophy, won back-to-back titles with the Crinums before going abroad; first to the United Kingdom where she played for Team Bath, and later moving to the Australia-based Sunshine Coast Lightning in the Suncorp Super Netball league, where she won back-to-back premierships.
Her international experience, which includes playing in the world cup, will come in handy in the team’s challenge to lift the coveted TNL trophy.
