The Department of Health continues to recommend the public vaccinate for Covid-19, in line with the advice of the World Health Organization (WHO). This recommendation comes despite an announcement by the WHO that Covid-19 no longer constitutes a public health emergency of international concern.

The announcement was made on Saturday (06/05), with the pandemic having ravaged the world since March 2020.

“However, it is important to clarify that this does not mean the pandemic is over,” said Foster Mohale, spokesperson for the national department.

“The fact of the matter is the pandemic remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality, especially in high-risk populations such as the elderly and people living with co-morbidities.

“We will continue to offer services aimed at preventing and treating Covid-19, including vaccination services,” said Mohale.
