The Free State High Court is set to decide the fate of D’ General and Bloemfontein Celtic in terms of the right to compete in the Free State’s ABC Motsepe League play-offs. The hearing is set for Thursday, 23 May.
Celtic has filed an urgent case, wanting the decision to award D’ General three points overturned.
The latter team received a favourable outcome in a protest against Dikgosi FC for failure to produce smart cards or identity documents in their return league fixture, which ended in one-all.
The dispute involving Dikgosi and D’ General was held after the league finished. At the time, Celtic had finished at the top of stream A. The winner of stream B is arch-rivals, Unite.
The winner of said stream would face Mangaung United to decide the overall winner of the ABC Motsepe League.
Celtic finished top of the table with 38 points, just a point ahead of the second-placed D’General. After receiving a favourable outcome, with three points awarded in the protest case, D’ General however replaced Celtic as the winner of stream A.
Aggrieved by this, Celtic filed a high court case, challenging Safa.
