The Caleb Motshabi Table Tennis Club in Batho, Bloemfontein, boasts five players in the Free State squad to represent the province at this year’s South African table tennis juniors and seniors championship in Johannesburg.

The Free State Table Tennis Federation (FSTTF) selected 32 players on merited performance during trials held at the Tempe Military Base in Bloemfontein on 24 August.

Featuring both male and female players, the provincial team will compete against teams from the other eight provinces at the tournament, which is set to take place from 22 to 28 September.

David Kgabale, coach and manager, is delighted having five players selected from the nine who attended the provincial trials.

“All those who were chosen are juniors, and this is testimony to the club doing the work in developing and nurturing its table tennis players,” said Kgabale.

At the tournament, juniors will compete in the U11, U13, U15 and U19 categories.

He is hopeful they will make the province proud at the upcoming tournament.

The selection continues to build on the club’s good reputation garnered over the years, in its players forming an integral part of the provincial team.
