The Shebeen, a fully-fledged, women-friendly food and beverages venue is envisaged to unleash women’s innovation, and the creation of safe venues to socialise without feeling threatened. Resonating with women, this is a new venue concept of Brutal Fruit Spritzer.

Making its month-long launch, and exclusive to women’s celebrations, this bar is located at the RockerFella Tavern, in Molapo, Soweto. The celebration closes today, having started on National Women’s Day on 9 August – in conjunction with Women’s Month celebrations.

Candice van der Bosch, acting head of the spritzer brand, explained the origin of the brand venue concept as a pilot initiative meant to go countrywide.

“The idea came from social listening, where women told stories online about their desire to have women-only spaces and experiences.

“This is a She-been, with specific emphasis on ‘She’ because this resonates with a woman and defines her.”

Van der Bosch maintains that women have been inspired to emphasise their existence, and they will unleash the creation of safe venues where women can socialise freely and are given deserving respect.

She has stressed the importance of the brand concept becoming the road map for female empowerment in business and to create safe venues to socialise, as well as a sense of belonging.

“The long term goal is to spark that conversation or that social movement where we can begin implementing Shebeen-compliance to all social, mixed-gender outlets which are more woman-friendly and meets the basic needs that are specific to women when we go out to socialise,” said Van der Bosch.

The month-long celebration sparked different themes, resonating with the celebration of women with female performers like DJ PlayGal and DJ Shirley Pebbles entertaining patrons.
