The Bloem Show saw an overwhelming influx in patrons who attended during the first four days after the expo’s official opening on Thursday, 25 April. More people are expected this week, this being the final week of the event ongoing until Saturday, 4 May, in the Free State’s capital Bloemfontein.
According to Elmarie Prinsloo, chief executive officer (CEO) of Bloem Show, attendance passed the 30 000 mark over the four-day period, attributing to media coverage. According to Prinsloo, the large numbers of people was evidence of growth of the diverse consumer event which this year celebrates 141 years of its existence and successful staging. The event will close on Saturday with live performances by artists bringing the curtain down.
There is still more on offer for patrons in the remaining days of the ten-days show showcasing 350 exhibitions. The best exhibitors and food stall were presented awards, following judging by an independent panel. Of the 58 food stalls judged, 19 received silver awards and 18 got gold awards (31.03%), while of the 330 exhibitors judged, 58 received silver awards and 67 were gold winners (20.3%).
Prinsloo said the exhibitors and food stall judging was done over the first two days of the event.
Overall, the attendance of people at last year’s Bloem Show amounted to approximately 93 722 over the course of ten days.
