The Bloemfontein police are investigating the disappearance of two young women, Lesego Mamello Motaung (22) and Lerato Masiu (23), in seperate cases. The police are appealing to members of the public to assist in the search to locate the missing women.

Motaung was reported as missing on 30 October and Masiu on 16 November.

Lt. Col Thabo Covane, spokesperson for the police in Mangaung, said cases of kidnapping had been opened at the Parkweg and the Kagisanong police stations for further investigation.

Covane said information received from her parent was that, before her disappearance, Masiu had come home with an unknown African male who is said to have been pretending to be an investigative officer. She left home at about 12:30. It is strongly suspected the bogus policeman kidnapped Masiu.

“The police would like to warn community members active on social media networks to avoid engagement with strangers. Stalkers study personal information of victims such as location, frequent movements, and residential addresses on social media networks,” said Covane.

Regarding Motaung, he said no trace had been found since she was reported as missing by her aunt at the end of October.

There are conflicting reports regarding her disappearance.

Covane said according to information received from the aunt, she had left her home in Uitsig, saying she was going to work at a food chain restaurant in Zastron Street, Westdene. However, one of Motaung’s colleagues alleged that she had reported being sick with ulcers.

Members of the public who might have information about the whereabouts of Motaung and Masiuare requested to contact investigative officers Col Msokoli Bolsiek on 082-466-8530 or Const. Tumo Godfrey Choane on 082-465-5945. Alternatively, information can be submitted on the My SAPS app or call Crime Stop on 08600-10111.
