BLOEMFONTEIN – The police in Bloemfontein have launched an intensive search for suspects in connection with the ruthless murder of an unidentified woman. The victim’s body was found on the side of the road in Springfield earlier today, on Saturday 7 February. A case of murder was opened at the Bloemspruit Police Station for further investigation.
Lt Col. Thabo Covane, spokesperson for the Free State police in Bloemfontein, confirmed the victim, estimated to be in her mid-30s, had been shot dead.
“The victim was found lying on her back with three gunshot wounds visible on the temple, behind the right ear, and on the chest. Three spent bullet cartridges were found and secured at the scene. Motor vehicle tyre marks were visible at the scene,” said Covane.
He said the victim was wearing a blue pair of jeans, a yellow striped short-sleeved T-shirt and white Fila sneakers.
Covane said a patrolling security officer discovered the body of the victim on the side of Meadows Road and immediately informed the frontline service centre at the Bloemspruit Police Station. He said a multidisciplinary team attended the scene for evidence gathering. These included the K9 unit, the Visible Policing unit, detectives and Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) experts.
The police are appealing for public assistance in tracing the perpetrator or perpetrators. Anyone with helpful information is requested to contact the investigative officer, Lt Col, Rankhala David Ramasoala, on 082 527 7390.
