BISHOP LAVIS, Cape Town – Two suspects have been arrested after a mass shooting in Bishop Lavis that claimed four lives on Friday evening.

This came thanks to meticulous investigation by the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) which led to the detention of two 23-year-old men who are expected to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates Court on today, Tuesday, 15 July, on murder charges.

Armed gunmen storm Bishop Lavis home

The incident unfolded on Friday, 11 July, at approximately 19:15 when two armed men stormed a house in Reenberg Street, Bishop Lavis. The attackers fired numerous gunshots at the occupants, fatally wounding two men and two women.

The victims were declared dead on the scene by medical personnel, leaving the Bishop Lavis community reeling from the brutal attack that has shocked residents across the Western Cape.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that the possibility of the incident being gang-related cannot be ruled out.

The Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit’s sterling tracing operations proved instrumental in tracking down the suspects.

Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Thembisile Patekile has commended the efforts of the investigating team for ensuring the breakthrough in this high-profile case, highlighting the dedication of Western Cape law enforcement.

Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight Minister Anroux Marais echoed these sentiments, saying: “Their determination and meticulous investigative work led to this breakthrough. This sends out a clear message to those who think they can carry out these heinous acts with impunity – the law will catch up with you and you will be held accountable.”

The Western Cape Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety continues to monitor the case closely, ensuring proper procedures are followed and that justice is served for the victims and their families.
