Engo Free State, a non-profit organisation providing assistance and service to vulnerable persons, in addition to creating hope in their lives, will be hosting an Adoption Day event in Bloemfontein, on Friday, 8 November, in the spirit of annual World Adoption Day on 9 November.

The global observation of Adoption Day sees ambassadors from all over the world organising events and parties, bringing together people from all walks of life to celebrate #WorldAdoptionDay.

The Engo event, to be held from 10:00 to 13:00 at 26 Van Heerden Road, Wilgehof, will share stories of successful adoptions.

The day aims to uplift all voices in the adoption community, to reflect on the adoption journey, and to connect with those positively touched by adoption.

During the event, Engo will provide information on the difference between adoption and foster care to those interested.

The organisation hopes to celebrate the act of adoption with those who have already adopted a child, individuals who themselves were adopted, as well as those who are interested in adoption. The body provides a range of services to the prospective adoptive parents and biological parents in terms of the Children’s Act, providing examples of who may adopt.

The services open to prospective adoptive parents involve the following:

  • A screening process that includes an information session, office interviews, home visits, and contact with references. Our prospective adoptive parents should not be younger than 18 years or older than 50 years.
  • Preparation session to empower prospective adoptive parents on issues regarding adoption, for instance how to tell a child he is adopted.
  • Emotional support.
  • Legal process.
  • Aftercare services.
  • Origin enquires.

Services to the biological parents:

  • Counselling sessions.
  • Discussions and follow-up sessions.
  • Emotional Support.
  • Legal process.
  • Origin enquires after 18 years.
